THE PICKUP
Chris Grier - Duane and Hudson

WE WELCOME YOUR STORIES AND COMMENTS!

As THE PICKUP is ongoing, we are still in need of your story submissions, and we are especially interested in hearing from those who found one of the pieces!

SEND A COMMENT ABOUT WHAT YOU FOUND:

If you would like to share your thoughts or feelings about an embroidered story you encountered, please send your comments to us at thepickup@cracksinthepavement.com. With your permission, we will publish your comments on the web page dedicated to the particular piece you describe finding.

SEND A STORY:

We are looking for your banal but sacred moments, those forgotten memories that get triggered upon encountering a particular sound, smell or site by accident. Brief bits of the past you may not think would be interesting to anyone else, but are important to you for one reason or another. If you have lived, worked in or visited New York City, and would like to share your story about it, please read these guidelines and the instructions that follow:

  • Your story must have taken place somewhere within New York City's 5 boroughs.
  • Locations may be private (i.e., inside an apartment, etc) but pieces will be placed so they may be found by members of the public (i.e., outside the entrance of the building where a submitted event took place)
  • We are looking for brief, seemingly insignificant experiences as opposed to epic, dramatic tales: descriptions of moments that might lead people to wonder what is not being told. We are true believers in the "less is more" adage...

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

Send the following to thepickup@cracksinthepavement.com:

  • One paragraph (max 150 words; remember that it will be edited by the artists to one or two sentences) describing your event
  • Include exact location of event. If you do not have the address, please provide the cross streets and the name of the business or a description of the building, features of area within the park, etc. Locations will be indicated by geographic coordinates on each piece and by maps in the web site, so for the greatest accuracy, please be as specific as possible.
  • The date the event took place
  • Your name, if you wish to be identified. If not, your story will be labeled as anonymous.

Thank you, and we look forward to receiving your stories! If you have questions, please send them to thepickup@cracksinthepavement.com.
