ghabh A SUB-PROJECT WITH A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT METHODOLOGY BUT THE SAME AIMS...
8 artists from London were asked to provide a gift, to
fill an empty Jam Jar.
8 non UK based artists were invited to provide a label featuring a photograph
of themselves and text of their own choice, along the lines of MISSING
PERSONS notices, to go on each Jam Jar.
The Jars were filled and labelled randomly in the order that gifts and
labels were received.
A ring of 8 CCTV cameras around the centre of London were identified,
and a location within the field of vision of each was decided on for the
hiding place for each Jar.
Instructions for finding the exact locations within these camera viewpoints
were written, in the manner of buried treasure maps of old.
With some difficulty (given events in London in July) the Jars were hidden...
This sub-project turns the usual Cracks in the Pavement methodology on
it's head: by providing partial knowledge of the nature of the gifts,
whilst withholding details of their exact location.
It is also an exercise in Indian Giving, as whomever should find each
gift is asked to 'return' it to the overseas artist whose details appear
on the Jar's label.
(THE
FINDER MAY OF COURSE DECIDE TO KEEP THE GIFT...!)
